The Average Knight/About Libertarianism
In conversations with people of extreme statist views, I often encounter the argument that there are practically no examples of libertarian societies in history. Many libertarians frantically try to remember all sorts of marginal and controversial examples like the Greek city-states or medieval Iceland ... it looks ridiculous and not convincing. In the first place, one should not argue with this argument - it was true that the vast majority of all countries or existing countries were not libertarian. But there is an important caveat that totally invalidates this argument: almost all countries where human life was valued had and still have adequate concepts of good and evil, beautiful and terrible STARTED as projects with a powerful libertarian base. There were not so many such countries in the history of mankind, but their value is much higher than the value of the rest of the world, which has existed in shackles throughout its history. Libertarianism is nothing more than a special case of talking about human freedom, namely, with associations of free people, all significant civilizations that brought good and virtue began, be it Jews, Greeks, Romans, Western Europe and the USA. All these countries are essentially libertarian projects that at some point entered the phase of DECEY. It is the decay, or as Mark Tullius Cicero said, corruption, that is the factor that "masks" the libertarian, or rather the republican, nature of these countries and civilizations.
Therefore, if you are a Republican or a Libertarian and your interlocutor tells you that "you cannot live in a society where people do what they want," remind him that today, as before, there is no shortage of slaves and slave owners, but there is always a shortage of free people, and if they get together they will figure out how to live somehow. And in order to know the essence of the issue, read smart books, such as the book by David Bowes, a link to which I attached to the text[1].
