There are now 4 known instances of Russian military pilots defecting to the West. - Captain Kuzminov flew his helicopter to Ukraine while under fire from the Russians and defected in August 2023. - Sr. Lt Gavrichenko defected to the US with his family through a US embassy in the UAE in Sep 2023. - Lt Vasiliev defected to the US shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. - Lt Mishov defected to Lithuania. Russia's GUR spetsnaz unit was shown on Russian TV saying they are tasked with assassination of Kuzminov for his treachery.
