One of the foundations of a democratic system is that the struggle for power in a democracy is not total and final, and that losing does not mean defeat on all fronts. Losers in a democratic system are not impaled, deprived of their property, or publicly flogged. On the contrary, the loser knows that he can try again in the next cycle, and if he does not want to, he can quietly retire. This encourages people to play by the rules, and also reduces the degree of bitterness in the political struggle.

One of the big mistakes that American liberals have made is that they have been harassing Trump for years with criminal prosecutions instead of letting him rest on his laurels. You can say as much as you like that Trump’s desire to return despite everything is a consequence of his outstanding personal qualities. But what choice did his opponents actually leave him? Having shown that they will not leave him alone in any case - they will not put him in jail, but they will ruin his life to the fullest. Trying a former president is a so-so idea from the point of view of the stability of the democratic system. This wasn't done before. And not at all because all US presidents were exceptionally clean before the law. Branding someone a criminal ten times a day is a so-so idea for the US. There, as far as I understand, every fourth resident has a criminal record (now the president is closer to the people).

And it never occurred to anyone that it would work exactly like that. That it was worth lowering the temperature, stopping shaking criminal charges, and instead showing grandpa that he could chill in his tower. American liberals played a cruel joke on themselves. They plunged themselves into an apocalyptic hysteria, where Trump is a fascist and a threat to democracy. And against a fascist, as we know, any means are good. But in the end it turned out that if you drive a rat into a corner, then for some reason it can decide to fight as if it were the last time in its life. Not even for the sake of ambition, but simply for the sake of its future and that of its family.
