Angela McArdle and Hotep Jesus (Bryan Sharpe)

“I don’t actually think that someone who...asked a question about whether Jews run Hollywood is an antisemite.”

In recent weeks, we have frequently highlighted the Mises Caucus’s recruitment and promotion of Hotep Jesus, along with Hotep Jesus’s ongoing history of anti-Semitism. At the Libertarian Party of Alabama State Convention over the weekend, Mises Caucus LP Chair candidate Angela McArdle was asked about the Mises Caucus’s promotion of Hotep Jesus by an audience member, who said "So in California, your caucus has invited Hotep Jesus to speak at their convention. He has expressed anti-Semitic views, anti-GSM views, he’s not a Libertarian —if elected to be chair of the national party, would you invite someone like that to the national convention? In response, McArdle said “I reject the premise of your question. 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨’𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡-𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 —𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞. I think it’s a really divisive thing to throw out. Would he be invited to speak at the national convention? I—I’m not planning the national convention, that’ll be up to the convention committee, who they put on. And the convention committee, would it be run by the Mises Caucus? No..it would be run by the Libertarian Party. And I wouldn’t be stacking committees full of people in my caucus or people who only believe what I believe because that’s not an effective way to run an organization, and that’s why we’ve had so much drama over these past few years. Everyone needs to be represented.” McArdle’s dismissal of Hotep Jesus’s anti-Semitism as “just asking questions” and “trying to be a truth-seeker” is either based in ignorance of the extent of Hotep Jesus’s prior comments or is an attempt to obfuscate the full extent of what he’s said and continues to say. When confronted with her answer on Twitter yesterday, McArdle said “This is about a tweet that you found offensive. None of you have ever watched his show or listened to him when he said he judges all people as individuals. It’s a nothingburger. You say far worse things about good people on a regular basis. Just let the drama go.” While I would argue that conspiracies about “the Jews” running everything is often and largely based in anti-Semitism, his comments go well beyond that. Lauding the alt-right for not being afraid to “call out the Jews and their implications in the destruction of the black community”, writing that “the truth is anti-Semitic”, going on a white nationalist Youtube show (Red Ice TV) and saying (to African-Americans) that “Jews do not like you. They hate you. They think you are shit,” and frequently using triple parentheses to describe Jewish people (including in calling them “thieves”) are not just the actions of someone curious and seeking the truth, and these are only a small fraction of his anti-Semitic comments. Ironically (based on McArdle’s contention that none of Hotep Jesus’s critics watch his show) to this day, he or his co-host on “Hoteps Been Told You” speak about Jews on almost every episode, but try to evade outsiders picking up on this by referring to Jews as “the redacted”. This is easily demonstrated by context and numerous tweets from him, including saying that a Jewish woman was not “exactly white”, but “*redacted* ish.” On top of the fact that McArdle’s answer illustrates the frequently demonstrated issue of the Mises Caucus (including its leadership and candidates) making excuses for anti-Semitism, the dodging of the question afterwards directly contradicts the frequently-stated goal of the Mises Caucus: a takeover. If McArdle is not on board with that, she should probably let the rest of the LPMC (who frequently talks about their excitement of taking over) know about it.
