I/we are Rittenhouse
Yesterday, in the process of twitter battles, I finally carefully read the story of Kyle Rittenhouse. Who does not know: on August 25, in the American town of Kenosha, during the riots, a 17-year-old youth shot two people with a rifle. After that, he was declared a fiend - a fascist who came to shoot peaceful demonstrators.
I watched the video - there is pure defense. The first video[1] (1:50) shows Rittenhouse running away with a rifle at the ready from several people with sticks in their hands (possibly flagpoles). The closest thing to Kyle is a shirtless black man who throws a plastic bag at him - his last name is Rosembaum, and these are the last moments of his life. Further, it is not very clear, but nevertheless it is clear: Rittenhouse runs to the end of the parking lot, then a shot is heard not far from him, he turns around and sees Rosembaum running at him literally a couple of meters away, there is a fraction of a second to decide - Kyle shoots. And rightly so. It is necessary to shoot in such a situation, if only because your own weapon can be taken away from you.
The second video is even clearer: Rittenhouse runs away again, being chased by several people who try to hit him. In the end, they manage to dump him on the asphalt and start beating him (including with a skateboard). And only after receiving a few blows Kyle opens fire. Then, with his hands up, he goes to surrender to the police (but the police drive by). That is, in both cases, Rittenhouse tried to AVOID the conflict (literally, by flight) - he shot already in hopeless situations.
Today Rittenhouse is in custody. He was charged with murder and illegal possession of a weapon. Only the last thing is fair here - the 17-year-old really could not walk around with a rifle at the ready. However, there should not have been any unrest in his city - then he would not have suffered "to defend the business." It would be better for everyone if the older comrades from the militia or the police, seeing a jerk with a gun, would send him home, giving out a bream goodbye. But for some reason they didn’t do it (but now the police chief chews snot and bends under hysteria). As a result, the funny bespectacled man with a gun seemed to the crowd an easy prey.
Separately, it is striking with what idiotic courage people jump on a gun with their fists - this is really for the Darwin Award. Why is that? Is it because over the past few months, influential leftist influencers have been writing that "looting" is normal, and arson and destruction are a means of restoring social justice? Like, all these white men with guns will not do anything to you. And even that comical pair of lawyers who came out with weapons on the porch of their own house was dragged through the courts. Bottom line: people believed in their invulnerability and infallibility. Now there are two corpses and a teenager who will live with blood on his hands.
And the moral here is simple: an escalation of violence only leads to a further escalation of violence. If you bring sticks to beat shop windows and people, they will bring rifles in return. And these rifles will shoot. It is THAT that is the only alternative to the free exchange of opinions, democratic procedures, open debates and other obsolete bourgeois institutions.
