Khrushchev’s mistake (ru:ошибка Хрущева)

October 3rd, 2022

Ukraine-Russia Peace:

- Redo elections of annexed regions under UN supervision. Russia leaves if that is will of the people.

- Crimea formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev’s mistake).

- Water supply to Crimea assured.

- Ukraine remains neutral.

“Khrushchev’s mistake”.

It is a bit odd when a US-based tech bro uses a phrase exclusively used within Kremlin propaganda.

Reminds me of 2000s era Kremlin trolls when they would just rant about super specific Russian policy interests in language no ordinary person would use.

“ошибка Хрущева” (Khrushchev’s mistake) is almost completely domestic, Russian language term in reference to Crimea, born from Stalinist Khrushchev’s oposition and Kremlin start using this domestically after 2014 to justify occupation of Crimea.

The wumao

  • Elon Musk: ‘Aren’t you entertained?’, October 7, 2022: ““My recommendation . . . would be to figure out a special administrative zone for Taiwan that is reasonably palatable, probably won’t make everyone happy. And it’s possible, and I think probably, in fact, that they could have an arrangement that’s more lenient than Hong Kong.””
