Useful idiots

Useful idiots are those who fight for a regime of which they would be the first victims.

Examples

• Whether they were adventurers or genuine Russian nationalists, most of these guys were upstarts, alien to the Russian political regime. Kremlin used them, but would never tolerate them. Every single pro-Russian warlord in Donbass was assassinated. Some in Donbass, some in Russia [1]
